Mora and Syllable

- Mora is Japanese rhythm.
Mora is called as "haku" in Japanese.
- Normal Morae
- /V/: vowel
- /YV/: semivowel + vowel
- /CV/: consonant + vowel
- /CYV/: consonant + semivowel + vowel
- Special Morae
- /R/: long vowel
- /Q/: choked sound
- /N/: syllabic nasal
Japanese syllable is called as "onsetu" in Japanese.
But Japanese syllable is not English syllable.
- Japanese Mora
A mora is usually consist of a consonant and a vowel. (/CV/)
For example,
a mora "ka" is consist of a consonant 'k'
and a vowel 'a', we speak a mora 'ka'.
In a special case,
a mora "n" is
a sllabic nasal (hatuon) /N/, we speak a mora 'n'.

A consonant ' is virtual.
In general, Kana is not a unit of syllable and is that of mora.
